Real Dry Leaves Provide an Unusual
Canvas for Colorful Embroideries.
Laura Dalla Vecchia, a Spanish
artist, understands that amazing works of art do not require precious
materials. In fact, she looks to the ground to find materials for her artwork.
Laura Dalla Vecchia embroiders birds
atop dry (and seemingly brittle) surfaces with real leaves and sticks. The
amount of detail she can achieve on this unusual surface is incredible, and the
threads highlight the beauty of these birds with their brilliant color and
patterning.
She manages to render each feathered
creature with incredible accuracy, from orange-beaked toucans to florescent
green parrots and ruby-throated hummingbirds. The intricate pattern of the
bird's wings is included in the embroidered designs.
