Hyper realistic Paintings of Flora and Fauna by Lisa Ericson
Lisa Ericson is an acrylic painter
who creates hyper-realistic images. Her paintings are all done in acrylic on
wood panels. She enjoys the hard surface of the panels, and she builds up her
images with multiple thin layers of paint. She employs a mix of Golden and
Liquitex acrylic paints. Depending on size and detail, she can spend two weeks
to a month on a single painting.
Her ideas are frequently inspired by
science, but with a surreal twist. She might read or hear about a scientific or
environmental phenomenon, which sparks an idea for a painting or an entire
series. She uses the black background to emphasize the drama of the spotlight
on her subject. It singles them out, reveals every tiny detail about them, and
creates a void of the unknown around them. As a result, each piece becomes a
personal portrait. She considers the animals in her paintings to be both
representations of the natural world and reflections of our own human struggle
and emotion. She enjoys drawing parallels between the two.
She has been drawing and painting
since she was a child. She began taking art classes when she was five years
old. She studied art as an undergraduate at Yale University and now lives and
works in Portland, Oregon.
