Textured Tattoo Designs

Carlos Velasquez (also known as Velco) is a tattoo artist who specializes in textured, one-of-a-kind tattoos. He only began tattooing in 2019, but he has refined his technique for creating gritty tattoos.

Velco stated that the effect gave him the impression of a beautiful, vintage, grainy texture in photographs taken with a film camera. Since then, he has been developing designs that incorporate this effect.

Velco began his tattooing career with fine lines before transitioning to the dotted style that now dominates his work.

In an interview with Demilked, he revealed,

 

“When I started tattooing, I was only doing fine line work, as I wanted to get accustomed to the skin, needle and ink before experimenting with other styles. After a year of practice, I started exploring different techniques and came across the dotwork effect that I now do thanks to a request by a client to add shading into one of the designs I had created. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the grainy texture that was attained and it shifted the path that I continued upon with tattooing,”
